avoid "Borat" like you would the plague...

ok, i am a HUGE Borat fan. i’ve been watching and recommending his comedy for years now. i first came across him (ok, sasha baron cohen as Borat as well as Bruno and Ali G) on the advice of an Irish friend in 2002. so i was pretty chuffed to learn that a movie was coming out. i even waited to see the movie with a friend who also enjoys Borat’s social critique of the U.S. and A as well as his uncanny ability to get Americans to reveal there not-very-well-hidden prejudices about other cultures. BUT THE MOVIE SUCKS. it’s simply not funny. it is a dumbed-downed version intended for american audiences. it was over-scripted. (lack of script, or straight-up ad libbing is one of Borat’s charms). i could go on and on but here’s the skinny: avoid “Borat” like you would the plague, unless of course you want to see him acting like Americans expect people from other cultures to act. there is nothing clever in this movie. sigh….
